Presidential Proclamation No. 470 declares\nthe third Sunday of September of each year as the International Coastal\nClean-Up (ICC) Day in observance of the Global Coastal Clean-up celebrations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
ICC is the largest effort of different\nvolunteer organizations to ensure ocean’s health. People gather on beaches,\ncoasts, rivers, waterways and underwater dive sites to remove trash. They record information on the debris\ncollected from bodies of water all over the world. The aim is to improve waste management, and\npromote environmental consciousness in all countries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The International Coastal Clean-up started\nin 1996, when two determined individuals – Linda Maraniss and Kathy O\u2019Hara of\nTexas USA asked volunteers to go beyond picking up trash and record each item\ncollected on a standardized data card in order to identify ways to eliminate\nocean trash in the future. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
From the said initiative, the movement grew\nand is now being observed in more than 100 countries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
They were able to make a difference to the\nworld by their simple efforts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
